This month’s cover highlights the Article “High-resolution mapping of cancer cell networks using co-functional interactions” by Evan A. Boyle, Jonathan K. Pritchard and William J. Greenleaf. Learning signatures of confounding in pooled gene knockout screens increases power to detect co-essential gene pairs by an order of magnitude. Integration of hundreds of deconfounded cancer cell line growth screens generates the highest resolution map yet for cancer drug targets and tissue-specific growth pathways, enabling analysis of gene function from global to local scales.
